Always wear a helmet! Keep your cadence (pedaling) high, not slow or in a high gear. A high gear are the ones that are outermost right when looking from the rear of the bike. You only want to use those for extreme down hilling, not everyday riding. Using too high a gear can lead to sore knees which can be discouraging. Be road wise, and not naive to motorists. Wear reflective clothing. Enjoy conquering a hill. When you get out of the saddle, you’ll feel the pain but also the sense of accomplishment! Then just freewheel back down the other side. Set small goals for yourself. How many miles do you want to be able to go for? 5? 10? In how many weeks will you be able to do ten miles? Fuel well. Regular cyclists need a lot of calories! Set a regular routine. Commute to work or just go out for biweekly bike rides. This will bring an enormous amount of fitness. Just be consistent.
Cycling can help to protect you from serious diseases such as stroke, heart attack, some cancers, depression, diabetes, obesity and arthritis. Riding a bike is healthy, fun and a low-impact form of exercise for all ages. Cycling is easy to fit into your daily routine by riding to the shops, park, school or work
